A response to: A Look At Article Directories and Their Influence in Organic Rankings by Michael Gray.
Michael’s right that only the top level article sites will produce traffic. I might add - only if used correctly.
If you haven’t read Michael’s article, now would be a good tiime!
Now, here is the rest of the story(in my experience):
Here are 2 articles I have submitted recently:
Article 1
Article 2
In both cases Google has indexed over 100 copies of identical articles. The point here is backlinks for the serps not direct traffic.
As he pointed out, some of these are missing your link - but most if not all of them are do-follow.
So the question is, does article marketing work for competitive keywords?
I think so! I have used mass article marketing as a key link building strategy for a few years now.
So does the duplicate content harm rankings? - In my experience the answer is an overwhelming “no”! Do we get benefit from links on these duplicate content pages? - absolutely! Would we get more reuslts if each article was unique? Probably so.
